Z for Zebra Crossing! #AtoZChallenge2016 #Singapore

Image
Creativity can be applied anywhere and the above picture is an evidence for that. Interesting art in a Zebra Crossing in Singapore near my place and the one I use frequently.
Public places in Singapore are artistically decorated in myriad ways and even routine things are done with a touch of creativity.

Y for Yale-NUS! #AtoZChallenge2016 #Singapore

Image
Yale-NUS, the liberal arts college established in 2011 is one the aesthetically sound location in the NUS Campus. It is a paradise for students. If you have a look at their Common Curriculum, you'll be amazed by the wide range of subjects they cover in undergrad. This college cultivates broad range thinking in young students and for artistically inclined students, this is the place to study. It also holds the distinction of the first US Ivy League School to be established in Asia and has a healthy mix of local and international students. When one spectrum of NUS is developing technology, this corner of NUS is fostering liberal arts.
As Steve Jobs rightly pointed out,  "When technology is married with liberal arts and humanities, that yields us the result that makes our hearts sing"

X for Xanthophyll! #AtoZChallenge2016 #Singapore

Image
Xanthophyll is the yellow substance that makes the leaves turn brown and dry when they are old. I clicked this picture to illustrate the concept of 'Dried Leaves Composting'. Singapore's Garden City vision was conceived in 1963 and during the rapid development they have never missed their connect with Nature.
All dried leaves from trees in Singapore are cleared from the road and left on the gardens which serve as compost for greener plants. Almost everyday, you find someone doing this task in the bus stop, MRT or on your street.
It's fascinating how these leaves, even after their death serve as a compost and remain useful.
"Crisp and Crunchy dried leaves fall upon grass; peacefully To become as a compost for the grass even during it's death; selflessly."

W for Workplace! #AtoZChallenge2016 #Singapore

Image
The above photo was taken in Central Business District (CBD) that houses a majority of the offices in Singapore. With high-rise buildings, all around you I was able to understand the term 'concrete jungle'. This place is filled with dreams and a lot of energy.
As Franklin Roosevelt said, "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams!"

U for Umbrella! #AtoZChallenge2016 #Singapore

Image
Never worry as to what will happen if you do something in Life. As Wiz Khalifa said, "Worrying is stupid. It's like walking around with an umbrella waiting for it to rain."  Always take a leap of faith in Life and go ahead with confidence. Things will turn out well. The experience that Singapore has given me so far has been one such thing.

T for Tempest! #AtoZChallenge2016 #Singapore

Image
The rains in Singapore are short, violent and frequent. You will find dark looming clouds over the skyscrapers many times in a week. Though, Singapore has a tropical climate, these short bouts of rains helps to keep this garden city green and clean.

Climbing the stairs between trees, I remembered a quote my father often tells me.
"The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night." ~H.W Longfellow~

O for Oxymoron! #AtoZChallenge2016 #Singapore

Dark Lights - a nice oxymoron to describe the view of skyscrapers at nights. Remembering Rod Serling's quote, “There is nothing in the dark that isn't there when the lights are on.” ~Rod Serling~

Clicked moments before nightfall in Singapore and I remember the words of Dylan Thomas.

Kent Ridge, one of the hilly locales of Singapore has a a rich history associated with it. It is one of the World War II Memorials in Singapore and the last battle against the invading Japanese Army was fought here. This place has been preserved with care and is one of popular bird watching spots in Singapore. It has located in between National University of Singapore and Singapore Science Park I.

E for Education! #AtoZChallenge2016 #Singapore

Image
Singapore is known worldwide for it's amazing education system and NUS- National University of Singapore has been the torchbearer for higher education programs; being rated as top Asian University and 12th worldwide (according to QS World University rankings). I've been amazed after coming here by the academic rigour that NUS has and the way how it combines diverse people to excel together. I strongly feel the reason for this is the efforts of Late Singapore President Lee Kuan Yew and the importance he laid on education.
Excerpts from his speech in 1966 on importance of education..
“What is the ideal product? The ideal product is the student, the university graduate, who is strong, robust, rugged, with tremendous qualities of stamina, endurance and at the same time, with great intellectual discipline and, most important of all, humility and love for his community; a readiness to serve whether God or king or country or, if you like, just his community.”
Proud student of NUS  Ra…

B for Buddha! #AtoZChallenge2016 #Singapore

Image
All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him.
